This a is a letter that I received recently. It was from the CEO of the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board.

The letter is an open invitation for innovators and inventors to appear in a new TV series.

The series is aimed at startups and emerging companies with innovative technologies that change the way things are done,

CALLING INVENTORS, INNOVATORS AND PRODUCT CREATORS…

A major Australian TV production company is developing a new technology and innovation show.

We’re calling for cutting edge technology, inventions, and new and innovative products being developed by Australian or NZ entrepreneurs, engineers, inventors, designers and scientists.

To get involved your product must be reasonably close to market ready, with at least one working prototype. Ideally, you will also have a business plan.

If you, or your company, have created a revolutionary product that the world is just waiting to see, which will save lives, time, or the planet, or just make living on it a whole lot more fun, we want to hear about it now.

Sydney ranks #12 in the top 20 startup ecosystems

This is a great infographic from Entreprenuer.com.

Australia has 2 cities in the top 20, Sydney at 12 and Melbourne at 18. And I am sure that Brisbane is not far off this list.

According to data compiled by financial-software firm Intuit Sydney is poised to compete with Silicon Valley but on government support Australia lags behind others.

According to online magazine Anthill “Australian venture capital firms currently have access to approximately $2.5 billion in available funds to invest into private companies. In 2010, angel investors – private investors who typically invest less than $1 million – invested over $1 billion into 5,000 Australian companies, an average investment size of $200,000.”

Australia’s venture capital and private equity landscape has definitely been on the up and up recently.

Anthill says that:

• only 1% of investors say now is not a good time to invest,
• the main barrier to investing into private companies is “finding suitable opportunities” and;
• most common challenge cited by investors is that most businesses are not prepared
